A day of unity and stillness has dawned in Cape Town—one that will be remembered for generations. On Sunday, March 8th, 2026, the Cape Town Meditation Centre celebrated a landmark occasion: the opening of the Sanctuary of Peace and the enshrinement of the statue of the Great Master of Meditation (Luang Pu Sodh).
This is the first monument of its kind on the African continent, marking a significant step forward in bringing the tools of inner wisdom to this region.
A “Bridge of Hearts” Across Nations
This auspicious day served as a beautiful testament to the power of peace, bringing together over 80 people from all walks of life. It was a true “Bridge of Hearts” that crossed the boundaries of race, language, and belief.

We were especially moved to see over 40 local South African residents joining our international guests, all united by a single, simple purpose: to cultivate inner peace. The air was filled with a profound sense of calm as we practiced stillness together, proving that the desire for harmony is a universal human language.
A Sanctuary of Inner Wisdom: Why We Built This Shrine

The new Shrine Hall (located at Building No. 109, next door to the main centre) is more than just a building; it is a dedicated space for the study of the self. It is dedicated to Phra Mongkolthepmuni, known as the Great Master, whose life was defined by an unwavering quest for the ultimate truth.
Driven by a vow of “attainment or death,” the Great Master risked his life in deep meditation to rediscover a lost path—the Dhammakaya. This practice is a natural state of enlightenment and inner clarity that exists within every human being, regardless of background or belief. By establishing this sanctuary, we provide a permanent home where everyone can learn to access this boundless inner peace for years to come.

Honoring Our Global and Local Family
Such a historic achievement was made possible only through the kindness of our global community. We were honored to welcome distinguished spiritual leaders, including Most Venerable Phrarajvitedvachiravetee from Thailand, along with leaders from Johannesburg and our dedicated local team.

Our heart-filled thanks go to:
- Mr. TAN TIAN LIAN: Our principal supporter who traveled all the way from Malaysia to stand with us in this moment.
- Our Local Volunteers: To the incredible adults and children who worked tirelessly behind the scenes—your smiles and “heart of service” created something truly beautiful for the Cape Town community.

Be a Part of This Historic Legacy
While the enshrinement ceremony was a success, the journey continues. We invite you to support the final completion of our meditation sanctuary and connect your name to this landmark of global peace.
Inscribe Your Legacy: To honor those who help us reach our final goal, supporters who make a contribution of R2,500 or more will have their names permanently inscribed on the Auspicious Name Inscription Plates at the base of the Great Master’s statue.
By placing your name at the heart of this sanctuary, you are creating a lasting legacy that will stand as a testament to your generosity and your commitment to peace on the African continent.
“May your gift of peace bring lasting prosperity to you and your family.”
