Good way to show gratitude and respect

Today, the monk guiding our session emphasized the significance of meditation. He highlighted its ability to cleanse and purify our minds, effectively dispelling negative moods. The aim is to cultivate a sense of calmness, reducing anxiety and promoting overall happiness.

Following this, he shared a tale from the Buddhist era about a monk who, upon learning of Lord Buddha’s impending departure to Nirvana, decided to intensify his meditation practice as a form of worship and a gift to Lord Buddha.

The monk’s dedication led him to achieve enlightenment. However, other monks, who did not understand his intentions, spread gossip and questioned his lack of sorrow. To address this, Lord Buddha called a meeting to clarify the situation.

Upon sharing his intentions with the crowd, the monk received praise from Lord Buddha, who emphasized that genuine worship involves practicing and following teachings rather than material offerings.

The story underscores the idea that the most profound way to show gratitude and respect is not through material gifts but by striving to become someone your mentor would be proud of.
