5 Hindrance of meditation
Meditation is one of the simplest things that everyone could learn and enjoy, however, sometimes you would face some problems calming your mind. Our mind is tricky because they change in our everyday life. Some are happy, some are sad, and some are frustrated. So, you have to deal with your mind in a different way to calm your mind down. These are 5 hindrances that you could learn and overcome it
- Physical Pleasure
- Angry Mind
- Sleepy Mind
- Wandering Mind
- Doubtful Mind
Physical Pleasure
It is the state of mind clouded by pleasure through 5 senses: picture, voice, odor, taste, and physical touch. The people seduced by this pleasure will keep thinking about it and could not still their minds like an indebted person who has to worry about giving their money back to the owner. When meditating, they tend to think about the picture, voice, etc. that they love and enjoy this mood until the time is out.
To overcome this, you could imagine the unbeauty and the impermanence of your own body and others so your mind could release itself from this desire. Tell yourself that we are just a bag full of waste that is dirty and eventually all of us will be decompose and left with nothing but bones.

Angry Mind
Anger, hatred, and dissatisfaction all are signs that you have an angry mind. People who have this kind of mind are like boiling water who cannot see things clearly or sick people who always feel uncomfortable wherever they go. When meditating, they tend to feel stress or frustration because they are hot-tempered and don’t know how to wait patiently until their mind calm.
The solution is to take your time before meditating and calm your mind down by thinking about the good things that happen today. After that, spread the feeling of happiness that you have to the people around you. You could even practice this every day before going to sleep. Forgive everyone and let everything so the next day will be your fresh new day without worry.

Sleepy Mind
Laziness and depression are the perfect way to describe this state of mind. When you have a sleepy mind, you will feel bored, and sleepy, and don’t want to do anything that is useful. Like prisoners who lose freedom and also lose the willpower to do anything. When meditating, they tend to fall asleep.
If you want to overcome this. First, you have to exercise more and get enough sleep to make your body feel fresh. Then, during meditation, you could visualize objects or use the mantra to help you keep your focus.

Wandering Mind
It is one of the problems that almost every people nowadays have. This wandering mind is the state of mind that thinks all the time and feels annoyed by it. It is like a wave in the ocean that keeps crashing at the shore again and again. When meditating, they tend to think about their work, family, business, etc. until the time out.
To overcome this, you could reduce the time you spend on social media to receive less information and emotion. When meditating, you could ignore the thought that passes through your mind. But, if it is important, you could write it down on paper. However, if that still does not work you could open your eyes and look at some clear object to let your mind calm down first.

Doubtful Mind
This is the problem that you will face when getting some experience in meditation. Maybe, you feel calm and relaxed then there is a little voice in your head asking you what should I do next or how could I be happier and calmer. This will sway your mind from stable to unstable, from calm to confuse like a millionaire crossing the long desert have to worry about their treasure fearing that thieves will rob it away.
The only way that you could overcome this obstacle is to practice meditation and face the same experiences a lot of time until you feel like it is normal and you won’t feel wavering anymore. Eventually, you will understand that doing nothing just still your mind in a relaxed mood is the key to meditation that you could use since the beginning until the end.
