On Sunday, November 10, 2024, the Cape Town Meditation Center held the annual Katina ceremony to raise funds for expanding the land to support the dissemination of Buddhism in South Africa. The event brought together over 120 participants, both locals and Thai nationals.
All attendees joyfully presented the Kathina robes to the Sangha (monastic community), led by the main sponsors of the ceremony: Mr. Thanaporn Butrsut, Mr. Niran Kongthong, and Mr. Patcharapol Kongthong. Following the offering, the head monk led the participants in meditation to purify their minds, preparing them to receive the blessings from this meritorious event.
After bringing their minds to a calm, centered state, the lead sponsor offered the Kathina robes, which were then presented to the Sangha, allowing the monks to complete the formal Kathina offering.
Once the Kathina ceremony was completed, the congregation offered a symbolic land title deed, representing the collective donation of land to the Cape Town Meditation Center.
Subsequently, Phra Khru Pawana Khunwitheth gave a sermon on the importance of accumulating merit and encouraged everyone to wholeheartedly support the spread of Buddhism. The sermon concluded with blessings for all attendees.
After the Kathina ceremony, everyone joined in helping to clean up and shared a meal together.
We rejoice in the merit made by everyone who participated in this great act of generosity for the Kathina ceremony at the Cape Town Meditation Center this year.
