Cape Town Kathina ceremony 2023

Cape Town Meditation Centre organized a merit-making Kathina ceremony. The contributor groups and more than 200 congregants, both Thais and South Africans, set up a procession of various kinds of flowers, Dhammachakra flags, and national flags, marching around the Cape Town Meditation Centre and moving into the centre of the ceremony.

Kathin Chairman’s Committee and all the congregants offered robes and Sangha’s necessities for the monks. After that, the president of the Sangha led everyone to meditate peacefully together.

The monastic community performed “Kran Kathina”. This is the ceremony of changing the Sanghati robes to the monks who are suitable for receiving the Kathin robes this year. This is a tradition that has continued since the Buddha’s time. Currently in Thailand, the Kathina ceremony is apart from offering new clothes to the monks. It is also a fundraising activity for the temple. This time, the Cape Town Meditation Centre raised funds to purchase an adjoining house to expand the centre area.

Finally, the president of the monk gave a valuable sermon regarding purchasing land and expanding the temple. Including plans for expanding peace that will occur after the land expansion is completed. And give blessings in Pali For auspiciousness.
