Earth Day is a day that reminds us to protect our planet from the harm caused by human activities. The United Nations has been working to raise awareness about the environmental issues that threaten our planet’s survival. We believe that to achieve sustainable protection, we must focus on our minds because our actions are influenced by our thoughts. Peace and war originate from the same source, the mind. War starts in an agitated mind, while true peace starts in a calm one. Therefore, we promote meditation as a means to unite humanity and attain inner peace.

Our master, Lungpor Dhammajayo Bhikkhu, the abbot of Dhammkaya Temple, has been dedicated to bringing peace to the world through meditation for over five decades. We represent him in South Africa, where we operate more than 200 branches to share his knowledge of true happiness. Once everyone achieves inner peace, we can protect our world by our own hands, as the saying goes, “World peace through inner peace.”

We believe that inner peace is the best solution to save our world, given the diversity of our beliefs, races, genders, languages, social statuses, and environments. The only thing that unites us all is our mind. By using language that originates from the mind, we can become united as one.

During our event, Monk Prem led everyone in a group meditation practice to experience the peace within themselves. Then, he invited the participants to light a candle of peace and make a wish for world peace.
Additionally, the monk showed videos to demonstrate that even though we are all different, we can come together as one, as was demonstrated during an event held in the Philippines in 2014. The video below is an example of this memorable and meaningful event, called “The Light of Peace”.
Hopefully, one day when everything is all set, we can have the event like this in Cape Town.
