A safe space for teenagers to learn mindfulness, build a positive mindset, well-being and develop essential life skills.
Life as a teen can be a lot. School, friends, family, figuring things out. It’s a lot! What if you could learn to chill out, handle stress better, and feel more positive every day? Our course is designed to be a safe space for teenagers to learn mindfulness and build awesome skills.
It is 5-class course runs every two weeks from 3:00 PM to 5:00 P.M. at Cape Town Meditation Centre

Class 1: Saturday, August 16th, 2025
Topic: Introduction to Mindfulness and Self-Understanding
From icebreakers to walking meditation, our teens had a great time learning practical skills and connecting with one another. The energy was so peaceful and happy!
The session was a blend of engaging activities designed to help the teens connect with themselves and each other. We started with icebreakers to create a relaxed and open atmosphere, followed by a grounding workshop that explored self-understanding. The teens also experienced their first walking and sitting meditation sessions, learning simple yet effective techniques to bring calm into their daily lives.
The feedback was truly heartwarming. Many shared that they felt “calm,” “relaxed,” “peaceful,” and “energised” after the session. One participant expressed, “I feel relaxed, calm, and peaceful. I learned a lot about other people’s characters.”
We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us, especially the teens who were brave enough to try something new. A huge thank you to all the staff, volunteers, and the monks who helped create this wonderful experience.

Class 2: Saturday, August 30th, 2025
Topic: Cultivating a Positive and Growth Mindset
The highlight of the session was our My Hero workshop. This activity helped teens explore the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. By learning to admire the good qualities in others and use them to inspire positive changes in ourselves. Also, we shared mindset of reframe failure as a learning opportunity and welcome feedback, they discovered how to cultivate positivity and mindfulness for self-development. We reinforced these lessons with the Find My Hero Card Games, making the concepts both fun and memorable.
Throughout the afternoon, we practiced various forms of meditation, from a mindful Walking Meditation to a calming Relaxing Meditation and a grounding Middle Way Meditation. These exercises helped teens learn to stay peaceful and grounded. The session concluded with a beautiful moment of gratitude where participants wrote thank you cards. This activity drove home the lesson of focusing on the good, a core principle for a positive outlook.
The learning takeaways were clear and inspiring: “I learnt to stay calm and be peaceful.”, “I learned how to meditate and how to have a mindful set.”, “I learned how to meditate and how to have a mindful set.”, “I learnt to be calm and collective. How to keep myself calm.”, “I learned to have a still mind and that many people like different activities.”
It’s clear that these teenagers are already building a strong foundation for a more resilient and positive life.

Class 3: Saturday, September 13th, 2025
Topic: Essential Life Skills: Cleanliness and Orderliness
Every human being has both a body and a mind. When we take care of our body and mind, we also create a cleaner environment and contribute to a better world. Even small actions—like making your bed, greeting people kindly, or doing daily tasks—add up and make a difference.
The Universal Goodness 5 (UG5) :
UG5 is universal — they can be practiced by anyone, anywhere, and at any time. They brighten the mind, make us calmer, and help reduce suffering for ourselves and others.
1) Cleanliness – keeping your body, mind, and environment clean.
2) Orderliness – organise things around you tidy and neat, living with structure and system.
3) Politeness – speaking and acting with respect toward others.
4) Punctuality – respecting time, both your own and others’.
5) Mindfulness – keeping the mind calm and aware, especially through meditation.
A monk once said, “The way out is in.” By looking inward, we notice when we’re getting stressed, angry, or overwhelmed. Only when we see clearly what’s happening inside can we change it.

In the end, these life skills will support you throughout your journey. These simple actions shape our habits, and our habits shape the level of our success and happiness.
The true key to overcoming life’s suffering is mindfulness through meditation—together with cleanliness and orderliness—done with joy, willingness, and a light heart.

Voices from our participants and volunteers:
“I feel calm, relaxed, and so happy today. Lots of love.”
“It was wonderful to be part of this class, to see how much the teenagers enjoyed themselves, and what a surprise it was to see how well they cleaned and how much fun they had. Thank you!”
“Thank you to all the lovely monks and staff for your kindness, guidance, and love that you share with the whole world! Keep spreading your vibe… it’s the only way for peace to thrive!! :)”
💖 A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our wonderful volunteers for their support!
We can’t wait to continue this journey in Class 4 and 5, where we will explore how mindfulness practice can impact our inner world. To be continued…
