Why Does Luang Por Dhammajayo Spread Meditation Worldwide?

A Simple Path to Inner Peace and Global Harmony

The answer is simple:
because the world is not peaceful.

As we can clearly see, conflicts and wars are still happening.
We all hope they will not last long.
At the same time, we hope more people will turn their attention inward — toward meditation.

A Lifelong Mission of Inner Peace

Luang Por has dedicated more than 50 years to teaching meditation. Although the core teaching remains the same, it has been continuously improved and adapted to suit people in each period of time.

Even though Luang Por may not speak many languages, his students have carried his teachings across the world. Today, meditation is being shared in many countries. This shows his strong commitment to spreading inner peace globally.

“To stop war, everyone in the world must work together by stilling the mind and reaching inner peace. Once that inner peace arises, it will naturally expand outward, bringing about true outer peace.”

Teaching of Luang Por Dhammajayo (28 January 2006)

How the Teaching Has Evolved

Over time, Luang Por’s teaching has developed to match the condition of people’s minds.

First Period: The Traditional Method

At Wat Paknam, he taught in the traditional way. Practitioners were guided to imagine a clear crystal Buddha image or a bright crystal sphere at the center of the body. They gently repeated the mantra “Samma Araham” until the mind became still and peaceful. Sometimes, he also guided practitioners to move the crystal sphere through the seven bases of the body.

Second Period: Creating the Right Environment

During the time of building the temple, the method remained similar. But more attention was given to creating a supportive environment:

  • A comfortable place to stay
  • Suitable food
  • Good companions
  • Proper teachings

At the same time, students were trained in discipline, respect, and patience.

Third Period: A Structured Practice

As more people came to learn meditation, Luang Por introduced a structured program to help everyone practice correctly.

He taught the principle of the 4S:

  • Sati – Mindfulness
  • Sabai – Relaxation
  • Sang-ket – Observation
  • Samam-Samer – Consistency

(Also explained as the 4Cs: Consciousness, Comfort, Consideration, Consistency)

There were also 10 daily homework to help students maintain mindfulness throughout the day.

In addition, he emphasized Universal Goodness (UG5):

  • Cleanliness
  • Orderliness
  • Politeness
  • Punctuality
  • Meditation

Fourth Period: Simplicity and Accessibility

In the present time, the teaching has been simplified even further.

Only two key principles remain:

  • Mindfulness
  • Relaxation

And the core virtues are now:

  • Cleanliness
  • Orderliness

Sometimes, simply sitting comfortably with a relaxed and aware mind is enough. However, in every era, he have never abandoned Luang Pu’s teaching, which succinctly summarizes the method of meditation as: “Stillness is the key to Success.”

Meditation and Virtue Go Together

Meditation is never taught alone. It must go together with good qualities. These two support each other. Meditation is like a tree, and virtues are like a pot.

If the pot is small, the tree will grow small — like a bonsai.

If the pot is large, the tree can grow strong and full.

So, anyone who practices meditation must also develop inner goodness. For more than 50 years, Luang Por has guided his students not only to meditate, but also to become good and ethical people.

A Universal Path for Everyone

Today, we can say this is one of the simplest and most effective methods.

The essence is very clear:

  • Mindfulness and Relaxation
  • Cleanliness and Orderliness

Anyone can follow this path — regardless of nationality or religion. There is no need to change your beliefs.

If people around the world practice in this way, problems will gradually decrease, suffering will lessen, happiness will grow, and peace will naturally arise.

A Shared Human Experience

You may notice something interesting: People from different countries, different cultures, and different backgrounds often report very similar experiences when they meditate.

Why is that?

Perhaps all human beings share the same inner purity — and everyone has the ability to access it.

The True and Sustainable Solution

Meditation offers a true and lasting solution. When people discover what truly fulfills their life, we will naturally move in the same direction — toward inner happiness. There will be less division, less competition, and gradually, many of the world’s problems will fade away.
