Sharing Merits with the Wider Society
Sharing is the lifeblood of a community. It ensures that no one faces hardship alone, bringing vitality and hope like a stream of water in a barren land.
We are monks from Thailand who have made our home here to share the teachings of meditation. Our mission is sustained entirely by the generous support of people from all walks of life, both locally and internationally. The community here in South Africa gave us a chance, and in return, we offer meditation guidance and a path to inner peace. When you offer almsâfood and other necessitiesâit enables us to continue our spiritual training without undue hardship.

Our Double Merit Offering to St Lukeâs Combined Hospices
On October 28th, 2025 the Cape Town Meditation Centre had the privilege of “paying it forward” to the wider society.
The items we donatedâmedicine and household goodsâwere originally received by us during our Medicine Offering Ceremony on August 25th, which celebrated our 3rd Anniversary. The South African and Thai communities participated with great devotion, and the items received were more than sufficient for our needs. We kept what was required for daily use and set aside the surplus to be given back.
These surplus donations were gratefully received by St Lukeâs Combined Hospices to support impoverished patients under their care and help raise funds for the hospice’s essential operations.

A Double Blessing for Donors
Those who offered alms during our Anniversary event received a double merit (a positive spiritual reward):
- First merit: By supporting monks who are diligently training to purify the mind and find true inner happiness.
- Second merit: By helping fellow human beings going through the shared experiences of birth, aging, illness, and death.

A Final Blessing
We hope that everyone who took part in the almsgiving feels uplifted and joyful. May you all be free from sorrow, illness, and suffering. May you live a long life with abundance and prosperity, able to care for your families and the wider human family. And may your hearts be filled with peace, easily coming to rest in the stillness of inner peace.
